Dr. Joan Mele-McCarthy, D.A. – Director of Outreach Testing Services and Head of School at The Summit School.
Prior to this position, she served as Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services in the U.S. Department of Education, and was a faculty member of several universities. She has also owned a thriving multi-disciplinary private practice and has served on professional boards in the fields of speech-language pathology and learning differences.
Dr. Joan Mele-McCarthy has earned the prestigious Roland J. Van Hattum Award from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) recognizing her service to schools.
Dr. Michael Castleberry - Learning Disabilities Specialist, has been a member of the Summit Outreach Team for over 20 years.
As a professor at The George Washington University, Dr. Castleberry brings his expertise as a diagnostician and his 30 years of clinical experience with children and young adults to our assessment team of professionals and the children and families he serves.
Dr. Karen Kent, Ph.D. - Clinical Psychologist, has recently joined our team of clinicians. Dr. Kent is skilled in assessing issues of attention, organization, and social/emotional needs. Dr. Kent has numerous years of experience in assessment for learning disabilities, giftedness, ADHD, and working with families and schools to help students achieve academically.
Dr. Imran Riaz, Psy.D - Licensed Psychologist, has been a member of the Summit Outreach team for three years. He brings his experience as a school psychologist to the team, as well as his varied clinical experience with cognitive, academic, and social-emotional issues that can occur in children and young adults.
